Michelle Yeoh, fresh off her best actress Oscar win for "Everything Everywhere All At Once," is gearing up to reenter the Star Trek realm as her character Emperor Philippa Georgiou in the upcoming "Star Trek: Section 31" film. Yeoh first portrayed Georgiou in 2017 when the Emmy-awarded "Star Trek: Discovery" series premiered on Paramount+.
The announcement was made by Paramount+ and CBS Studios on Tuesday, also noting that Yeoh will play a part behind the scenes as an executive producer. Describing her excitement to revisit her role in the "Section 31" film, Yeoh expressed that this role had become close to her heart since she first stepped into Philippa's shoes during the resurgence of the Star Trek franchise.
The actress is looking forward to sharing the next chapter of Georgiou's journey, saying, "To see her finally get her moment is a dream come true in a year that’s shown me the incredible power of never giving up on your dreams. We can’t wait to share what’s in store for you, and until then: live long and prosper (unless Emperor Georgiou decrees otherwise)."
Yeoh made history this year as the first woman of Asian descent to win an Oscar for best actress in March. The film "Everything Everywhere All At Once" had a successful night at the Oscars, taking home seven awards including best picture.
The upcoming "Star Trek: Section 31" film will present Yeoh's character as she becomes part of a covert Starfleet division and is assigned to safeguard the United Federation of Planets while confronting her past, as per the official film synopsis. Production for "Star Trek: Section 31" is expected to kick off later this year.
