France is reportedly planning to distribute a "survival guide" to all households, offering advice on how to prepare for potential threats such as armed conflict, health crises, or natural disasters. This initiative, if approved by Prime Minister François Bayrou, aims to have the 20-page guide delivered to homes before the summer, according to French media.
The guide is expected to be divided into three sections. It will provide guidance on safeguarding oneself and others, outline steps to take when a threat is imminent—such as emergency contacts, radio stations, and reminders to secure doors and windows in the event of a nuclear threat—and offer information on community defense involvement, including joining reserve units or firefighting teams.
Additionally, the guide will recommend assembling a "survival kit" with essentials like at least six liters of water, a dozen canned goods, batteries, a flashlight, and basic medical supplies such as paracetamol, bandages, and saline solution, as reported by Europe1 radio.
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister's office stated that the guide's goal is to enhance public resilience against various crises, whether they are natural, technological, cyber, or security-related. However, the Prime Minister's office did not confirm the details when approached by the Guardian.
This development follows President Emmanuel Macron's announcement to expedite and increase orders for Rafale fighter jets to strengthen the air force, aiming to prepare for potential conflicts. Earlier, Macron emphasized the need for France and Europe to brace for the "Russian threat" and the possibility of reduced American involvement in Europe. He expressed hope that the U.S. would remain an ally but stressed the importance of readiness.
During a visit to a military base in eastern France, Macron indicated that decisions regarding additional military investments would be revealed soon, highlighting the need for continued defense and preparation to prevent war. "We must be ready and protected," he stated, acknowledging the uncertainty of future events.
