Over 80 Arrests Made in 'Operation Take Back America'
Gianno Caldwell, a political analyst, appeared on 'The Faulkner Focus' to discuss the increase in migrant numbers under the Biden administration and the necessity of holding accountable those officials who provide sanctuary to undocumented immigrants.
In a concentrated enforcement effort named "Operation Take Back America," Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies apprehended 81 undocumented individuals in Kentucky over a five-day period. This operation is part of the ongoing efforts under President Donald Trump's administration to address illegal immigration. ICE reported that 25 of those arrested face criminal charges, including one individual who had been deported or denied entry seven times previously.
Those without criminal charges remain in ICE custody pending deportation proceedings. The offenses among those arrested include sexual misconduct with a minor, drug trafficking, and domestic violence. The individuals detained hail from countries such as Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Cuba, India, and Palau.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that the arrests are part of a broader initiative involving multiple federal law enforcement agencies in Kentucky, aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling criminal organizations. The operation, coordinated from Louisville, is intended to enhance community safety nationwide.
Michael Bennett, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky, commended the operation's success, emphasizing its positive impact on both local and national security. He praised the dedication of law enforcement and legal teams involved.
Among those arrested was Humberto Avila-Duran, a 54-year-old Mexican national, detained for illegal firearm possession. He had been previously deported multiple times. Another individual, Edi Diaz-Lopez, faces charges related to drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession, with potential penalties of up to 40 years in prison.
A 44-year-old Indian national was also arrested, having been convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor, intimidation, and battery.
Sam Olson, Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Chicago, highlighted the importance of federal collaboration in ensuring public safety and national security. He acknowledged the complexities of such operations and expressed gratitude for the support of federal partners in Kentucky.
