Republican Tudor Dixon praises Trump as she eyes 2026 run for governor or Senate in key battleground

Tudor Dixon, a business leader and conservative commentator who was the Republican nominee for Michigan governor in 2022, is contemplating another statewide run in 2026. She is considering whether to pursue the open Senate seat or the governor's office in Michigan. Dixon expressed her desire to make a positive impact on the state, saying, "I want to do the most good for our beloved state. That's why I'm considering a run for governor or U.S. Senate." She plans to decide soon where her skills would be most beneficial.

In her announcement, Dixon praised former President Donald Trump, highlighting his leadership on national issues such as border security, manufacturing jobs, and energy independence. She affirmed her commitment to supporting Trump's America First agenda in Michigan. Trump's endorsement in 2022 helped Dixon secure the GOP nomination for governor, although she ultimately lost to Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer by ten points. Whitmer, who is term-limited, cannot run again in 2026.

Several Republicans have already entered the race, including state Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt, who announced his gubernatorial bid in January. On the Democratic side, figures like Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, and Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson have declared their candidacies. Detroit's Mayor Mike Duggan also announced his independent campaign for governor last year.

The Senate race will be to replace retiring Democratic Senator Gary Peters. Former Representative Mike Rogers is considering another Senate run after narrowly losing to Democrat Elissa Slotkin in the previous election. Rogers is expected to announce his campaign soon, having enlisted veteran strategist Chris LaCivita as a senior advisor.

Other Republicans eyeing a Senate run include Rep. John James and Rep. Bill Huizenga. Among Democrats, State Senator Mallory McMorrow is likely to enter the race, having gained national attention for a notable speech in 2022. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Congresswoman Haley Stevens are also potential candidates.

Meanwhile, Pete Buttigieg has ruled out a Senate run in Michigan, possibly paving the way for a future presidential bid in 2028.
