Michigan baseball player hits drug-inspired celebration after hit, apologizes for 'immature decision'

Michigan baseball player Mitch Voit found himself in hot water after a celebratory gesture following a significant hit. During the second inning, with the Wolverines leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, Voit hit a triple that cleared the bases against the USC Trojans.

Upon reaching third base, Voit mimicked snorting the chalk from the foul line, a move reminiscent of cocaine use. This act stirred up controversy on social media, leading Voit to issue an apology.

"I apologize for my actions on third base," Voit stated. "It was an immature choice made in the moment. This gesture does not represent my character, upbringing, or the values of the team. I take full responsibility and am truly sorry to those affected."

Voit, who previously played both as a hitter and a pitcher, has excelled at the plate since focusing solely on batting. This season, he boasts a .451 average and a 1.393 OPS in 19 games, along with six stolen bases, surpassing last season's total. Defensively, he has maintained a .995 fielding percentage since last season.
