Michelle Yeoh set to return in new 'Star Trek' movie

Michelle Yeoh is gearing up to return to the Star Trek universe in a new film. Following her recent Oscar win for Best Actress in "Everything Everywhere All At Once," Yeoh will reprise her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou in "Star Trek: Section 31."

Yeoh first appeared as this character in 2017 with the launch of the "Star Trek: Discovery" series on Paramount+. The announcement of her return was made by Paramount+ and CBS Studios on Tuesday. In addition to acting, Yeoh will also take on the role of executive producer for the project.

Expressing her excitement, Yeoh stated that she is "beyond thrilled" to return to a role that has been significant to her since the start of the new era of "Star Trek." She added that seeing her character finally take center stage is a dream realized in a year that has underscored the power of perseverance. She teased fans by saying, "We can’t wait to share what’s in store for you, and until then: live long and prosper (unless Emperor Georgiou decrees otherwise)."

This year has been particularly momentous for Yeoh, who became the first Asian woman to win an Oscar for Best Actress. "Everything Everywhere All At Once" secured seven Oscars, including Yeoh's award and Best Picture.

In "Section 31," Yeoh's character will join a covert Starfleet division tasked with safeguarding the United Federation of Planets while confronting her past. Production for "Star Trek: Section 31" is set to begin later this year.
