Southern England Could Experience 19C Temperatures This Week
Some regions in the UK are set to enjoy warmer conditions than Ibiza and Corfu as spring officially begins this Thursday. On the spring equinox, temperatures in southern England might climb to 19C (66F), significantly above the seasonal average by 8C, according to Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell.
"We anticipate a lot of dry weather and increasing sunshine over the next few days," Mitchell noted. "By Wednesday, temperatures in the south could reach around 17C, and by Thursday, they might rise to 19C."
These temperatures are expected to surpass those in Ibiza, which is predicted to reach 17C, and Corfu, forecasted at 16C on Thursday. Despite this warm outlook, the start of the week will still be cold in the UK, with some frost overnight.
"Currently, temperatures are around the average of 10C, but a chilly wind is making it feel colder," Mitchell explained. "However, by Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will be about eight degrees above average in some areas, bringing a spring-like feel."
The rise in temperature is attributed to a large high-pressure area, which typically results in dry and sunny weather. The warmest conditions are expected in the southern parts of the UK.
"On Wednesday, the southeast and the Midlands will be the warmest, and by Thursday, this warmth will extend further north, making it feel quite warm across southern Scotland, Northern Ireland, and throughout England and Wales," Mitchell added. "Only northern Scotland will continue to experience colder weather midweek."
