Peruvian fisher rescued after three months stranded at sea

A 61-year-old Peruvian fisherman, Maximo Napa, was rescued after being adrift at sea for 94 days. He survived by consuming cockroaches, birds, and a turtle, while keeping thoughts of his mother and his two-month-old granddaughter in mind to maintain hope. Napa was found by an Ecuadorian ship near Chimbote, northern Peru, and was released from a hospital in Paita on Saturday.

Navy official Jorge González reported that Napa was in good physical shape despite the ordeal, able to walk and take care of himself, although he was understandably shaken. Napa had embarked on his journey on December 7 from San Juan de Marcona but was thrown off course by severe weather and currents. His boat, lacking a radio beacon, drifted into open waters.

His daughter, Ines Napa, expressed relief and gratitude, stating that the family never lost hope of his return, calling his rescue a miracle.
