A small child made their way onto the White House grounds on Tuesday, leading to a quick response from the US Secret Service. According to Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service's chief of communications, the toddler managed to crawl through the fence on the White House's north side, triggering security alarms.
Guglielmi stated, "Today, the Secret Service Uniformed Division encountered a curious young visitor who briefly entered the White House grounds through the north fence line. The security systems immediately alerted Secret Service officers, and the child was swiftly reunited with their parents."
This isn't the first time such an incident has occurred. In 2014, a similar event took place when a toddler squeezed through the White House fence just before then-President Barack Obama was scheduled to speak about Iraq. That incident led to a temporary lockdown and delayed the briefing.
At the time, Edwin Donovan, a spokesperson for the United States Secret Service, humorously remarked, "We considered waiting until he could talk to question him, but instead, he received a timeout and was sent on his way with his parents."
