Stephen King returns to X, hurls insults at Trump, Musk after vowing to leave 'toxic' platform

Stephen King Resumes Activity on X, Criticizes Trump and Musk Post-Pledge to Abandon 'Harmful' Platform

Stephen King, the acclaimed author, has made a comeback on X, launching criticisms at ex-US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, despite his earlier promise to abandon the 'harmful' platform.

On his return, King greeted his approximately seven million followers, "I’m baaaack! Did you miss me?" to which Musk amusingly replied, "I did, honestly."

Shortly after his comeback on X, the renowned author of horror targeted Trump and Musk, who is leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the second Trump administration. King expressed his thoughts on Trump in no uncertain terms, stating, "Just wanted to say that Trump is a treacherous, Putin-admiring dolt! The same goes for Elon!"

King had announced his departure from the platform, citing its 'harmful' environment, soon after the previous year's presidential elections. "I'm leaving Twitter. Tried to stay, but the environment has just become too harmful. Follow me on Threads, if you want," King announced last November, while promoting his account on a competing platform owned by Meta. King's goodbye message is still prominently displayed at the top of his X account.

The timing of King's return to X might be linked to the upcoming release of his 1980 short story adaptation "The Monkey," a horror film scheduled to launch on Friday.

King has been a vocal critic of Trump and the Republican party for a long time. During Trump's initial term, he had advocated for his impeachment and likened his detention of immigrant families to a plot from one of his horror books. The author of "Carrie," "It," and "The Shining" had also previously clashed with Musk over X's blue checks and expenditures on Ukraine.
