Body returned from Gaza is not Shiri Bibas, Israeli military says

Title: Israeli Military Identifies Misidentification of Body from Gaza as Shiri Bibas

Israel has accused Hamas of breaching the ceasefire agreement after confirming through forensic tests that the body returned from Gaza does not belong to Shiri Bibas. The bodies of her sons, Ariel and Kfir, along with peace activist Oded Lifschitz, 84, were positively identified by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized Hamas for allegedly placing the body of a Gazan woman in the coffin, emphasizing that Shiri's remains were not among those returned. Hamas claimed that Shiri's remains may have been mistakenly mixed up with other casualties in the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike.

The IDF spokesperson revealed that Hamas had killed the Bibas boys in a brutal manner and attempted to conceal their actions. Israel demanded the return of Shiri Bibas and the remaining hostages, whether alive or deceased.

Hamas declared its commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the ceasefire agreement and released a list of hostages set to be released. The Bibas family, who were kidnapped during Hamas attacks in 2023, has become a symbol in Israel, sparking widespread grief upon news of their bodies being returned.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum expressed shock and devastation at the failure to return Shiri Bibas, despite the terms of the agreement. The exchange of hostages' bodies was part of the ceasefire deal, with expectations of further exchanges in the future.

Despite these developments, talks on progressing to the next phase of the agreement have yet to commence. Numerous hostages remain in Gaza, with ongoing efforts to secure their release. The conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in significant casualties and ongoing tensions in the region.
